Health Protection Agency HPA says a sample taken from a Maldivian who returned back from the UK has tested positive for the virus.

This takes the number of infected Maldivians to four.

In a tweet, HPA said the sample was taken after the individual showed symptoms of Covid-19. HPA said the individual had been isolated at the Velidhoo Isolation facility.

All four of the Maldivians who have tested positive for Covid-19 came back from the UK where the virus is spreading rapidly.

This has also prompted HPA to test and contact screen all the Maldivians who came back from the UK between 14th and 19th of March.

Government has been taking several measures to deter a community spread of the Covid-19 virus here in the Maldives latest of which include a three hour curfew implemented in the Male’ area effective tomorrow. Government also extended the closure of its offices, schools, universities and colleges by another week.
