Government decides to stop issuing on arrival visas to foreigners starting next Friday as a further measure to stop spread of Covid-19 in the country.

Speaking to the media earlier today, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said starting from the 27th of this month authorities would stop issuing on arrival visas to all inbound foreigners.

He said resort staff can only leave the resort 14 days after the last tourist has checked-out of the resort.

Highlighting that 50 resorts have already been closed, the President said Maldives is now effectively under a lockdown. He added that all the measures now taken are to guarantee the safety and security of all Maldivians.

The President said the government offices; schools, universities and colleges will remain closed for one more week.

With this announcement all government offices, schools, universities and colleges will reopen on the 5th of next month.
