President Ibrahim Mohamed solih says government will work to reduce internet charges amid the Covid-19 crisis.
Addressing the media the president said Internet has become essential as the country takes measures to prevent further spread and the government will work through official channels to provide Internet services at reduced rates.
President Solih added that official announcements on this matter would be made within the week.
Most Maldivians are now struck at home following social distancing steps taken by authorities to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
With a rise in usage a reduction in telecommunication charges has become a point of concern for many Maldivians with MP for Galolhu Dhekunu constituency Mikail Naseem calling for telecommunication authority members to be summoned to parliament.
