Ministry of Foreign Affairs says a group of Maldivian medical students studying in Pakistan are on their way back having departed from Pakistan last night.

The Ministry said the group included 6 medical students and that they will arrive back in Maldives later tonight. It added that the students made their travels with help of the foreign ministry.

The government is working to recall back Maldivian medical students studying abroad as it aims to reinforce health sector professionals in the fight against Covid-19.

Earlier this month, government recalled 51 Maldivians studying medicine in Nepal with 33 of them traveling at the expense of the government. The remaining 10 funded their own travels back.

Under precautionary measure taken by the government all arrivals in the country will be quarantined for 14 days with exception of tourists.

Government has said that it will charter emergency flight in case a Maldivian abroad is ordered to leave any country.
