The Health Protection Agency (HPA) of Maldives on Sunday has confirmed a foreigner from Anantara Dhigu Resort has been tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

The individual, who was found positive for the virus most recently has been sequestered at the isolation facility in Farukolhufushi for screening.

The current tally for the number of positive cases include 5 from Kuredu Island Resort, 2 cases from Sandies Bathala Resort, 2 from Kuramathi Island Resort and 2 from Anantara Dhigu Resort.

All confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been found from expatriates and tourists.

So far the island nation confirms the presence of the virus was not discovered from any locals who were screened or tested.

Meanwhile, Maldives government on Saturday took precautionary steps by prohibiting new check-ins to guesthouses and city hotels of Male' City including Hulhumale' and Hulhule' as well.

Moreover, state has imposed restrictions on staffs employed at local resorts from traveling out of the island.
