The Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Abdulla Shahid stated he was hopeful the island nation's citizens will be able to travel to Europe on a visa-free basis in the coming future.

The move comes as an effort by the current administration to provide better consular support to Maldivians.

The minister spoke in such regard at the opening of the visa application center, providing visas for Germany, Czech Republic and Schengen.

Minister Shahid noted the center will eliminate the hassle faced by Maldivians to make visas for European countries by flying into either India or Sri Lanka for the purpose.

The Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs claimed the development in visa application for the said region shows the international support, especially from European peninsula towards President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration.

Moreover, minister had further noted the new development in visa services will bring beneficial change and prospectus to the Maldives with regards to socio-economic boost.

Shahid assured the visa application service through VFS Global will be state-of-the-art and exceptional.
