A delegation of the Maldivian Reform Movement (MRM) has visited incumbent Vice President Faisal Naseem with concerns over child abuse issues.

The delegation met with the current vice president to discuss on preventing future cases related to child molestation and abuse.

The MRM delegation was lead by incumbent Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage and the Deputy President of the movement, Ms Yumna Maumoon.

Reports related to child abuse had been alarmingly high over the past two months, with a sensitive case related to a 02 year old infant becoming the victim of sexual abuse from her father, grandfather and great grandfather, which resulted in the 'explosive' outburst of the public.

The matters pertaining to child abuse have become even critical in light of public allegations over gross negligence and general imcompetency of the then Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services.

Meanwhile, in the recent presidential address by Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at the Maldives Parliament, he noted cases of the said nature have been still at the processing phase since 2012 without any due process from local courts.

Furthermore, the Maldives head of state claimed the bill of Child Protection has been at a debating phase for 28 years, ensuring the bill will be implemented into an Act on 20 February 2020.
