The former Commissioner of Police and current Thimarafushi constituency lawmaker has placed importance of arming Maldives Police Service to better counter terror attacks.
The ex-CP and politician Abdulla Riyaz made the comment following the harrowing attack on three foreigners at Hulhumale' on Tuesday evening.
Condemning the attack on the foreigners, Riyaz went on to justify strengthening the local law enforcement with the utilization of proper armament.
Riyaz commented enforceability of law by Maldives Police against acts of terrorism or terror attacks will improve once they have been armed to counter such situations.
Moreover, the parliamentarian also commented the current condition of Maldives demands for Police Special Weapons and Tactics unit (SWAT) to be deployed across inhabited islands to ensure safety of the public and visitors to the country.
Furthermore, Riyaz noted that regardless of the intention or reason behind the attacks aimed at the public or tourism, it should be considered as acts of terrorism.
