Maldives Police Service confirms they have received a report from North of the country, whereby a victim with special needs was sexually abused.
The victim, reported aged 30 years, according to Maldives Police and the case was lodged around 19:30hrs on Monday evening, 03 February 2020.
However, no arrests regarding the case have been made while local law enforcement confirms the case was under investigation.
Sexual abuse cases have become alarmingly rampant, with almost a new case surfacing each day.
The recent crackdown by local law enforcement as well as Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services on sexual abuse perpetrators became frequent following a case involving a 2 year old infant sexually molested by father, grandfather and great grandfather.
The aforementioned case had sparked widespread public outrage, with most of the Maldivian netizens publicly voicing for accountability of state institutions responsible in countering such cases.
