The locals of Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo, two islands under Addu City constituency, have prepared to file a petition with Maldives President.

Local reports claim the locals of the two Addu City islands wish to establish a separate governance and identify from that of the other Addu City islands.

Geographically, both Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo are unlinked to the mainland Addu City - which links Gan, Maradhoo, Feydhoo and Hithadhoo.

The locals of Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo wish to identify their islands outside of the Addu City constituency and thus enact their own island council.

The locals are also petitioning to Maldives President to officially identify the two islands as one, since the said two islands are geographically linked.

A special committee, formed of representatives of the two islands are currently preparing to file their petition addressing their demands which includes providing the two islands with new administrative jurisdiction.

The islands of Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo, later renamed as Hulhudhoo-Meedhoo or Hulhumeedhoo, lies approximately 15 to 20 minutes via a speedboat transfer from mainland Addu City.
