The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed another local has been diagnosed positive for measles.
HPA confirms the measles case was reported on Saturday, 18 January 2020, from eight of the patients tested for the pandemic.
The measles patient, fourth in recent times, comes amid the Maldives government annoucing of a measles outbreak.
The first measles case, was discovered from a 3 year old local child whose parents had ceased vaccination.
Following this another 30 year old local was discovered positive for measles, while a third case of the pandemic was reported.
The recent measles outbreak has been tied to the anti-vaccination movement, which has an alarmingly strong following of over 1,000 people according to some local reports.
Recently, news of a Viber group with anti-vaccination supporters promoting misinformation about vaccination have surfaced on various social media platforms.
Many pro-vaccination supporters have lambasted the anti-vaccination movement and its sympathizers for the recent measles outbreak.
