Maldives National Defence Force MNDF says it has rescued the four-member crew of a supply vessel en route to the Robinson Resort in Raa Atoll before it caught fire and sank.
MNDF said that the four individuals were rescued while stranded in open water 6 miles south of Laamu Maavashu.
The crew of the vessel named 'Nooru-2' consisted of one local and three foreigners. MNDF said that the four have now been transferred to Laamu Atoll Regional hospital.
MNDF was unable to confirm how long the crew had been stranded at sea and if they had sustained any injuries during the incident. MNDF added that it was difficult to comment on injuries by looking from the outside.
They also squashed reports that said that the vessel had been out fishing and confirmed that it was a supply vessel.
It is not not clear what caused the fire on the vessel.
